| President |

The primary role of President is that of Chief Executive and Administrative Head. The main duties include:

► chairs the Board of Management (BoM) meetings and Annual Conference
► is responsible for the business affairs of the Union
► works with other Principal Officers to further the objectives and policies of the Union
► actions instructions given by the BoM and Conference
|
|
In essence, the President is there to ensure that NZALPA runs in accordance with the Union’s rules and is operated in an efficient and effective manner.

| Glen Kenny |
|
Glen got the flying bug at an early age. After leaving high school, Glen joined the School of Aviation programme at Massey University. Upon graduation, Glen worked as an instructor with Waitemata Aero Club before gaining a position with Eagle Air as a First Officer on the EMB-110 Bandeirante.
After two years flying with Eagle Air, Glen got his command on the Bandeirante, and shortly after the SA-227 Metroliner. In 1996 Glen gained a position with Air New Zealand as a Second Officer on the B747-400 and in 2004 was promoted to First Officer on the B767 fleet.
Glen has been an ALPA member since 1992 and an active member of the executive since 2000 when he was elected to the Board of Management as a Northern Branch representative. Glen has previously served as the Northern Branch Secretary, Union Secretary, IFALPA Director, Vice President and is the current President.
Glen is married with three children. He currently lives in Nelson and enjoys skiing, fishing and martial arts.

| Vice President |
|
The Vice President is responsible for overseeing all of the Union’s financial and administrative affairs. The main duties include:
|

► tracking the Union’s financial performance to make sure it is keeping within the boundaries of the Conference approved budget
► ensuring that the employment arrangements with the NZALPA staff are kept up to date, and carries out annual reviews of these arrangements
► preparing a budget for the upcoming year for approval by Conference
► completes other administrative duties as assigned by the President or the Board of Management

The Vice President ensures that NZALPA is adequately resourced to undertake activities to achieve its objectives, in both the industrial and safety arenas.

| Wayne Renwick |
|
Wayne started flying in 1984 as a private pilot before deciding to pursue an aviation career. He worked briefly as a Flight Data Assistant for the Airways Corporation before taking up full-time employment as an instructor at the Canterbury Aero Club.
He was a flying instructor for five years and achieved a B-Category instructor’s rating. He later moved to Eagle Air where he flew EMB-110 Bandeirantes and SA-227 Metroliners. Wayne spent two years in the Middle East flying for DHL before returning home to take up a position with Air New Zealand. He is currently a First Officer on the B767. Wayne first joined NZALPA in the late 1980s when working as an instructor.
He has held the positions of Admin Head of the Air New Zealand Pilots' Council and Northern Branch Chairman prior to being elected as Vice-President.
He is married with three children and is based in Auckland.

| Secretary |

The Secretary is appointed by the Board of Management (BoM). The Secretary is entitled to all the privileges of a Principal Officer but shall not be entitled to vote unless they are an elected Branch representative.

The Secretary is responsible for attending to all membership related enquiries, advising members of conferences and meetings, organising any remits for such meetings, advising members of proposed rule changes, organising ballots for approval of such changes, recording details of the BoM and Conference meetings, and being a BoM liaison person with the office staff.

| IFALPA Director |
|
The IFALPA Director is responsible for all safety matters pertaining to IFALPA in New Zealand. He/she advises the President and other relevant parties on all IFALPA matters, and is responsible for insuring that any deficiencies relating to aerodromes and airspace are reported to the IFALPA Regional Vice President.
The Director is also the primary means of communication between IFALPA and NZALPA and is responsible for ensuring open and effective communication between the two parties.

| Kevin Henderson |
|
Kevin Henderson’s aviation career began working as an air traffic controller six years before flying Bristol Freighters for Safe Air. Kevin joined Air NZ and has flown the F27, B737 and is currently flying the B767.
Kevin has been an NZALPA member since 1980 and has been actively involved holding the following positions; Board of Management Representative, Air New Zealand Pilots' Council member, Critical Incident Response Program peer support volunteer, Central Branch Chairman, Industrial Director (5 years), Negotiator (10 years), Globalisation Co-ordinator and most recently the IFALPA Director. Kevin also holds a Diploma of Industrial Relations from Victoria University.
Kevin is married with 2 children.

| ATC Director |
|
The role of ATC Director is to coordinate the Air Traffic Control section of the Association and represent our members currently employed by Airways New Zealand.

| Jim Dunn |
|
Jim began his aviation career in 1980 at Ardmore Flying School, where he worked as an instructor and charter pilot until 1985. After attending the ATC Training Centre, he took up ATC in 1986. Over the next couple of years he worked at Nelson tower and Wellington Area Control Centre.
Jim left ATC before his first child was born, and moved back to Auckland where he was the Chief Flying Instructor of the Ardmore Flying School. Air New Zealand accepted him as an F27 First Officer which was short-lived after Air New Zealand retired the Friendship fleet and made approximately 87 pilots redundant. He was back to ATC in the Wellington Centre within two days of the redundancy taking effect.
After another promotion in the Wellington TMA, Airways decided that it would close Wellington and relocate those services to Christchurch. Jim moved to Christchurch when the centre closed and worked there for a short time before a supervisory position came up in Auckland. In 1998, Airways chose to close the Auckland centre and relocate those services to Christchurch. So in January 2000, he moved again to Christchurch where he has been ever since.
Jim has been active member on the Board of Management since around 1992 and on the ATC Council since that time. He has held the position of Southern Branch Chairman, Conference Delegate, negotiator, CFT Trustee, ATC Director for 5 years and he’s now doing his second stint as ATC Director.
Jim was born in Auckland, and is married to wife Beth, with 2 teenage children, Sian and Adam.

| Medical & Welfare Director |
|
The NZALPA Medical and Welfare Director role covers several areas which include:

► monitoring CAA, MOT and industry when rule and legislation changes are proposed which may have affect our members’ medical certification
► advise members on best course of action when faced with medical problems which could lead to recertification and or employment issues
► refer members to NZALPA's specialist aero-medical advisor when professional assistance is required to regain recertification or rectify problems/restrictions on current valid medical certificates
► to oversee NZALPA's “Pilot Recovery Programme” for members with substance abuse problems
► to oversee NZALPA's “Critical Incidence Response Programme”

| Chris Mehlhopt |
|
Chris joined NZALPA in 2000, and is a Christchurch based A320 First Officer for Air New Zealand. In 2006, he was first voted on to the Southern Branch and Air NZ Council. He also serves on the Board of Management and Medical and Welfare Committee.
In 2007 he helped re-establish the Critical Incident Response Programme (CIRP) and acted as a coordinator, he was elected to the position of Medical & Welfare Director in November 2008. Chris began his flying career with the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) in 1982. He initially flew the Iroquois helicopter followed by stints on the Airtrainer, Friendship, Strikemaster, Macchi and Hercules.
Chris lives in Christchurch and is married with three children.

| Technical Director |

In addition to implementing all technical policies of the Union, the Technical Director is responsible for working with the President in all technical matters, including assisting members with any incidents, accidents or other safety related issues that may occur while carrying out their flying duties. This work also extends to assisting other IFALPA affiliated members during their operation into or out of New Zealand. In addition, the Technical Director's role includes overseeing all the safety work undertaken by NZALPA. This ensures the New Zealand regulatory authorities and participants in the NZ aviation system are kept up to date with the latest international trends related to improvement of aviation safety through systems, procedures, training programs, and compliance with ICAO standards and recommended practices

| Stu Julian |
|
Captain Julian has returned to the NZALPA Technical Director position after first holding the position in 1989. Stu’s flying career began in GA in the early 70’s whilst still at secondary school, progressing through single, multi-engine, turbine, narrow body and wide body jet aircraft. In the mid 80’s Stu commenced his air line career and was soon a training captain in medium turboprop aircraft. In the late 80’s he served as a B742 First Officer, later returning to a command on the B732 which included a standards and training position on glass and non-glass 737s. This standards work was later associated with simulator training and checking experience for continued competency and initial issue command upgrades. He is currently a B767 captain and has over 12000 hours.
Stu served as the Regional Vice President (RVP) South Pacific for the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Associations (IFALPA) and for the past 5 years has held an Executive Board position with responsibility for the Asia Pacific region. This region includes 18 Member Associations (MA) and interaction with 39 ICAO Contracting States, 5 international organisations, and the Regional ICAO Office in Bangkok.
Contemporaneously he has worked as a Human Factors facilitator and is part of his airlines Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) working group. He has broad experience in commercial aviation accident and incident investigation, recorded data, Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) data protection and other related flight safety work including with the Flight Safety Foundation’s (FSF) Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) and Approach and Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) program as the IFALPA representative in the 90-00’s. Stu is very active within the national and international commercial aviation scene advocating for improved aviation safety, and the piloting profession.

| Industrial Director |
|
The primary role of the Industrial Director is to oversee the legal team and act as a negotiator in employment agreement negotiations. This means that he/she:

► is involved in, and responsible for all collective employment agreement negotiations
► assists different councils and provides legal resources to them as required
► makes reports and recommendations to the Board of Management on issues of legal significance

| Tim Robinson |
|
Tim joined NZALPA is the early 90's whilst working at Air Nelson as a Saab 340A and Metro III pilot. He is currently an Air New Zealand Boeing 737 captain domiciled in Christchurch, and has previously flown the A320.
Tim is the current Industrial Director and has previously served as the Chairman of the Southern Branch, Admin Head of the Air New Zealand Pilots’ Council, Deputy Admin Head of the Air Nelson Pilots’ Council and Board of Management representative. He and his wife Brenda and family live just outside of Christchurch on their farm block at Broadfields. Tim is also a qualified lawyer.
