Day Three

Morning and Afternoon Sessions

Final day of Conference is typically more business orientated, however this morning we were fortunate to have two guest speakers address the delegates.

Our first speaker was Tom McRoberts, President of Civil Air, the organisation which represents Australian Air Traffic Controllers. Tom updated us on the current state of Air Traffic Control in Australia, noting that the issues that they are having are common to those that have been discussed at Conference.

Airservices has recently gone through significant redundancy proceedings, which has undermined the organisations ability to provide sufficient training and accurate aeronautical charting. Tom also discussed the introduction of the GBAS system and the required airspace changes that are need to accommodate the system, infrastructure upgrades to various major Australian airports and the further delays to the new One Sky project. To close, Tom explained that the phrase “affordable safety” has entered the discussion around RPAS regulation, which is a concern to the organisation.

Our second speaker was Lisa-Marie Richan of Convergence Communication & Marketing, which is the public relations company that currently represents NZALPA. Lisa-Marie spoke on the subject of Stakeholder Influence and Issues Strategy and the success NZALPA has been having regarding the Wellington RESA.

Following morning tea, delegates viewed the Draft Branch Structure document, which was presented by Tim Robinson. Tim has requested that if any delegate wishes to make submission on the draft proposal, they should send their submission to president@nzalpa.org.nz.

The remainder of the day was taken up with presentations from the chairperson of each of the various sub-committees. The chairperson presented delegates with their various remits for debate and vote. The order of presentations was as follows: Medical and Welfare, Technical, Finance and finally Rules and Policy.
