AIR NEW ZEALAND REGIONAL TURBOPROP PILOTS – Solicitor/ Advocate Joy Walpole Leva’a
This was the first renewal bargain under the Memorandum of Understanding, and for turboprop pilots at Air New Zealand. This Collective Agreement ratified on 30 September 2022, just before its expiry and follows a trend where NZALPA aims to commence bargaining in advance of the legal timeframe for doing so. Bargaining had some good outcomes in relation to security of employment, allowances and flexible flying – thank you to the Air NZ Regional Bargaining team who worked extremely well together to produce a good result
AIR NEW ZEALAND SIMULATOR INSTRUCTORS – Solicitor/Advocate Joy Walpole Leva’a
We initiated bargaining in November 2019 for the inaugural Sim Instructor Collective Agreement to cover both jet and turboprop instructors. Due primarily to the pandemic, progress was stalled for some time. However, we are pleased to advise at time of writing we have a signed Terms of Settlement and the document will be out for ratification shortly. A huge congratulations to the negotiating team of Jon Henderson, Ray Robinson and Darren Tainui for all their hard work over a period of over three years.
AIRWAYS ATC – Solicitor/Advocate Joy Walpole Leva’a
After approximately 18 months of bargaining (through lockdowns!), the Collective Agreement has been ratified and was signed in July 2022. A copy of it should be available on the NZALPA website and app. Congratulations to the ATC Council, in particular the negotiators, for pushing to achieve a good outcome in trying circumstances at times. Thanks also to the people who have volunteered to be part of the working groups on a potential Memorandum of Understanding, pay and progression, and sick leave, which will be commencing shortly and into 2023.
AIRWAYS FLIGHT SERVICE – Solicitor/Advocate Joy Walpole Leva’a
The Flight Service Collective Agreement was ratified in or about August 2022. The members showed great strength in unity and achieved improvements relating to standardising the redundancy clause across units and, particularly, improvements for the Paraparaumu unit.

We look to be in the final stages of negotiations for our first Collective Agreement.
