The NZALPA Technical department consists of the Technical Director (an elected position), the Technical Officer ( a full-time employee of the union) and the Technical Subcommittee.
The Technical Department monitors developments in all areas of aviation, represents the membership with NZCAA, Government and other organisations and advocates for member interests in many forums. The Technical Department works closely with IFALPA and subcommittee members normally attend IFALPA standing committee annual meetings for Security (SEC), Aircraft Design and Operations (ADO), Accident Analysis and Prevention (AAP), Airports and Ground Environment (AGE), Human Performance (HUPER). Additionally ATC members of the Technical Subcommittee attend IFATCA technical meetings.
Current projects include the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) issue, the Queenstown night-operations project, participation in the NZCAA FRMS working group as well as the ADS-B working Group. New volunteers for the Technical Subcommittee are always welcome.
