NZALPA - out and about at the Omaka airshow

NZALPA was well represented at Easter’s Omaka airshow, just out of Blenheim.

This year’s Omaka airshow was all about ‘saluting women in aviation’. The peer assistance network (PAN) women’s assistance forum (WAF) flew the flag on behalf of NZALPA, with the support of Air New Zealand. The WAF team set up a fantastic stall in the careers tent to promote aviation careers to the young generation.

NZALPA Senior Technical Officer Dave Reynolds also attended the show. He lived out a ‘boyhood dream’ of flying a Supermarine Spitfire TR MZ IX from Auckland down to the show.

What is the women’s assistance forum?

The women’s assistance forum (WAF) is an offshoot of NZALPA‘s peer assistance network (PAN) programme; it is a specialised forum to assist women in aviation.

WAF provides mutual support and information for women in aviation. The forum includes women pilots and air traffic controllers who are experienced in the industry and know the challenges it can present. WAF is not only about mental health, but can also provide support for other difficult topics such as IVF, child care, infant feeding, sexual harassment and female-specific medical matters.
