Negotiations update

Current and ongoing negotiations involving NZALPA are detailed below. For any queries related to negotiations, please email [email protected]

Virgin Australia New Zealand (VANZ) – Advocate Adam Nicholson

At the beginning of April, VANZ introduced its new CEO, Paul Scurrah. VANZ will be updating its mandate, and we hope that the new CEO does not result in a major change in the company’s position. At the end of April, and as this publication went to print on 1 and 2 May, we had our scheduled negotiation dates. We had hoped for an extra two days, which should have got us fairly close to a settlement on the key issues.

Massey School of Aviation– Advocates Adam Nicholson and Joy Walpole-Leva'a

Following media coverage of industrial action, NZALPA’s negotiating team attended mediation with the university on 10 April 2019, and the result was very positive. Currently NZALPA has reached a proposed settlement with Massey.  The exact wording of that in the collective agreement is being finalised before going to the Massey pilot members for ballot.

Airways Flight Service – Advocates Adam Nicholson and Joy Walpole-Leva'a

We reached a provisional settlement on 2 April. As soon as we have agreed on the wording of the collective agreement, we will send a copy to our members for discussion at ratification base meetings.

Air Freight – Advocate Joy Walpole-Leva’a

The negotiating team met in mid-April. We expect negotiations to begin with Air Freight in early May.

Air Nelson and Mount Cook Single Regional Air New Zealand Collective Agreement Project (RANCAP) – Advocate Mark Dignan

The NZALPA Regional team met with representatives from Mount Cook and Air Nelson management from 26 – 28 April.

As reported in previous editions of Uplink, we continue to work through the core issues making significant progress, as we pursue a single collective agreement with Air New Zealand for Mount Cook and Air Nelson pilots.

A draft document is complete. However, we are still negotiating aspects of the agreement, particularly around remuneration and core terms and conditions.

We have also initiated bargaining for Mount Cook and Air Nelson pilots on 26 April, as both collective agreements expire on 24 May 2019.

Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (ARHT) – Advocate Joy Walpole Leva’a

The negotiating team met with ARHT mid-April and is arranging dates for negotiation in May.
